Legendary French designer and innovator, Pierre Cardin af ter graduating as an architect, started his fashion designer career after the Second World War under the guidance of the renowned master in the field, Christian Dior. In 1950, he sets up his own fashion house and three years later becomes a member of the prestigious Chambre Syndicale de la Haute Couture. In 1959, he enters history and conceives the revolutionary idea of a ready to wear collection (Pret à porter), bringing high fashion to the general public. Besides clothes and accessories Pierre Cardin designs furniture, interior decors as well as contributing to the automobile and aircraft industries as well as many others. Since 1991 he has held the coveted title of honorary ambassador of the UNESCO as well as a goodwill envoy of the United Nations. Pierre Cardin has received an incredible number of highest awards and decorations all over the world, including several times the famous Dé d’Or (Golden Timble), the highest recognition in French Haute Couture. In 1992, he became the first French designer to enter the French Academy of Fine Arts.
